Network Forensics

Network forensics relates to the forensic analysis of systems often in use within the networks and infrastructures of small to large scale businesses. The Data and Information held within these systems is often of great use in Corporate disputes.

Data storage within businesses is often constructed using a Redundant Array of Independent Disks (RAID) system. RAID technology allows the combination of storage devices into a single unit. This can be configured in a number of ways. It is possible to combine multiple storage devices into one large storage drive. Another common configuration is to use RAID technology to 'mirror' a storage device. This means that there is another storage device which contains a live backup of all data on the primary storage device. Due to the nature of the technology, different acquisition methods are required when examining such systems. At Sytech this service is offered.

Within businesses E-mail systems are generally implemented. These E-mail systems can hold a large amount of data such as the E-mail contents, contact lists, calendar information, user notes and incoming faxes (if applicable). A commonly used E-mail system is Microsoft Exchange Server, however there are a large number of alternative systems available of Either Windows or Linux based. Each system will have their own bespoke method of storing this valuable data. This is another professional service offered by Sytech.

There are a large number of other technologies which are primarily used within a business environment. Some of these technologies are as follows:

- Hardware & Software Firewalls

- Intrusion Detection System (IDS) - Intrusion Detection Systems

- Database systems such as Oracle or SQL Server

- Network Attached Storage (NAS)

- Storage Area Network (SAN)
