Cell-Site Analysis is a branch of the Forensic Sciences which involves the locating and positioning of mobile devices when communications (Call, SMS or MMS) occur. This can be used to show the area a person is in at the time of an offence.
This evidence can then subsequently be used within a legal case where a persons location is required, this can help establish the guilt or innocence of an individual.
To date there are now over 5 Billion Mobile Phones in circulation around the World. With a World population of under 7 Billion, that is a staggering figure.
With almost every member of the UK population permanently now carrying a Mobile Phone Device, a whole host of evidence can be used to assist in a case. Every time a Mobile Device communicates with their associated Network provider an event is recorded. With this, data mapping exhibits can be produced which can clearly show the locations a mobile device has been.
This can be used to identify the whereabouts of a mobile phone at a given time or to trace the movement.
Cell-Site Analysis can be used for, or to show the following:
Handset Attribution
Conspiracy / Association Communication Patterns
Cell Site Mapping
Victim / Suspects Movements and Locations
Call Data Records Analysis
Connection Charting
Cell Coverage Charting
Pattern of Life
Alibi Confirmation or Disproving
